ESSENDON coach James Hird says his team is keen to test its top-four credentials against the best team in the competition tomorrow night.

Hird said the Bombers were excited to play the top-of-the-ladder Eagles and would use the game to test themselves.

“We’ve had some good performances this year but playing against the best is always an indication of how well you’re going,” Hird said.

Western Bulldogs have the sniff of success

WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Shaun Higgins says the team must replicate the intensity of Friday night’s game against Collingwood if the Dogs are to stay in touch with the top eight.

With a tough game against North Melbourne on Sunday, Higgins said the club would have to match or improve on the effort.

“For us, wins are like gold and we’re building towards them,” Higgins said. “We definitely won’t be taking our foot off the pedal this week.

HAWTHORN midfielder Sam Mitchell says the Hawks are still a long way from playing their best football.

He said while the playing group responded well against St Kilda on Saturday night, after an embarrassing Round 5 loss to Sydney, consistency would be a focus before Friday night’s clash against Melbourne.

CARLTON hasn’t named names, but key defender Michael Jamison admits the Blues are likely to rest some stars from Sunday’s clash against Greater Western Sydney.

“I’m sure the guys behind the scenes might be discussing it, but who it might be I’m not sure,” Jamison said.

“Some of the older guys might put their hands up if that is the case.”
